Dragon Age: The Veilguard is just over a month away, but BioWare and EA are far from through teasing what the game has in store for players. During Sony’s latest State of Play, a new gameplay trailer for The Veilguard depicted the player’s character, Rook, as she (in this particular adventure) led her companions into a climatic battle with a dragon.
It’s unclear how deep into the game this sequence takes place, but Rook and her companions are openly trying to locate their enemy, Ghilan’nain. When they can’t find her, they settle for one of her blighted dragons. But this isn’t a typical dragon. Instead, it’s an ice dragon, and therefore it’s vulnerable to fire attacks that an ordinary dragon might shrug off.
Rook’s character build here is a Mage, which is one of the three classes that players can pick when crafting their take on the game’s leading hero. For this fight, Rook largely relies on using ranged attacks through her staff, as well as some magical dodge moves that keep her as far away from the dragon as possible. The video also demonstrates how players can coordinate the attacks of their companions to maximize the damage they inflict on their chosen target.
Unfortunately for Rook and her friends, this may have been an elaborate trap. Just as the dragon lies on the verge of defeat, Ghilan’nain appears with her blighted forces alongside a second dragon at her command. Suddenly, a very winnable battle seems like it has irrevocably turned in favor of the evil goddess. But players will have to wait until next month to see what happens next.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 31.
